Here at Koo Wee Rup Primary School we believe it is important for all students to experience a variety of artforms, which is why our Arts program offers a split strand curriculum, focusing on both Visual Arts and Dance. Our students participate in weekly one-hour Arts sessions, alternating between the two artforms each semester.
Our Arts program aims to inspire, excite and motivate students to come to school, while building the language and classroom culture to enable students to feel safe in taking creative risks, to problem solve, to have a go and to express themselves creatively. We encourage students to work both collaboratively and independently as their confidence, self-esteem and self-worth grows.
Visual Arts
Visual Arts sessions at Koo Wee Rup Primary School have a calm and creative atmosphere. Students are given opportunities to explore 2D and 3D techniques and processes using a range of materials and mediums, including drawing, painting, print making, collage, construction, sculpture, and much more. Our Art sessions encourage and build confidence, curiosity, imagination and enjoyment through engagement with visual arts making viewing, discussing, analysing, interpreting and evaluating.
Students develop a visual arts language around the elements of line, shape, colour and texture, while looking at a variety of Australian and International artworks and artists to aid as inspiration for their own works. The artworks that our students study range from cultural and historical periods.
Koo Wee Rup Primary School holds an Art Show once a year, to bring our staff, parents, students and local community together to view students’ artworks and to celebrate our students learning achievements in Art.
Dance
Dance at Koo Wee Rup Primary School is a chance for students to build their confidence, self-esteem and performance skills while letting off a bit of steam! Our students love the chance to express themselves creatively through a physical medium.
Our weekly one-hour Dance sessions have a focus on technique, choreographic skills, compositional activities and fun! Students work on their balance, strength, flexibility, body awareness and control, while learning about the elements of dance and how to communicate their ideas and feelings using movement.
Koo Wee Rup Primary School allows students to take part in another school community event- our end of year concert, where students experience the excitement of performing in front of a live audience! This whole school event gives students the chance to practice their performance skills while sharing a learnt dance with friends and family.
The Arts at Koo Wee Rup Primary School brings the community together and builds a greater love for creative learning!
